The update is here! The game has also been released on Game Jolt and Steam!
Here is the changelog!
Changelog
New
- First person mode! No looking up and down though.
- On screen stamina wheel for first person mode.
- Random events have a change to occur when entering a new floor, except checkpoints and other important floors.
- New doorway type!
- New wall prop! Paintings!
- New Biome! The House, this will contain new types of environments such as the Library, the Living Room and the Entryway.
- Flashlight flickers when scaring the Jabberwock.
- Ability to hide the On Screen Controls when in game, they will only appear when the game menu is shown.
- Added new radio sounds as well as background static.
- Steam Integration! (Not applicable here.)
- Prologue letter will be included in the Document Inventory.
- New prop! The Grandfather Clock, this will slowly count towards midnight from a random time. Upon striking midnight the clock will let out a loud chime that will attract some creatures that can hear.
- Ability to hide all game UI in the graphic settings.
- Windowed mode can now be resized.
Changes
- Player movement affects the head rotation properly, this should also reduce the amount of first person motion sickness.
- On screen instructions use a smaller font size.
- In hand motion detector now has a screen off object.
- Cursor will hide in first person and when you use a controller.
- Document Inventory directional buttons do the opposite from before.
- Candle stick particles have been replaced with a billboard.
- Made the motion detector UI larger.
- Creatures will not turn better when moving at higher speeds. This will increase difficulty rather than dodging a creature as it runs past you.
- Motion detector UI will not show in first person mode, you can see the motion detector when held.
- Creature blips on the motion detector are now red.
- Seeing an object through wall material now uses transparency correctly, each one will be shown more clearly than others.
- Seeing doors through walls is back, it will be hidden when in first person mode.
- Doorways will remove nearby "non dominant" ones to prevent double door layers.
- HotelStraight objects piece has been shrunk by one table on both sides.
- Mimic count has been reduced to 10.
- Mimics deal less damage.
- Mimic retreat distance is now 15.
- Keys, codes, notes and documents now have a slight glowing effect to help find them easier.
- Buffed token spawns slightly.
- Modified final encounter spawns to give the player a small break.
- Stun trap light effect now fades out.
- Items will have a delay to hide when you stop using them.
- Slowed down the creature animation speed, it looked too goofy.
- Updated window gradient colours to more accurately represent the time of day. It starts off as blue now!
- Certain achievement names have been changed.
- Height maps have been removed from textures, I don't know why I included them.
- New .exe icon.
- Updated the prologue letter as it had a typo.
- Removed most debug.log lines for slight performance increase.
- Reduced head turn motion when in first person mode.
- Dining areas have had their prop count reduced as well as their spawn frequency too. The biome has a lot of frame drops for some reason. Hopefully all the recent changes helps a lot.
- Updated naming conventions for player prefs.
- Removed the ability to change resolutions, it messed the window size up a lot.
- Options menu was too confusing when using a controller, Simply selecting a tab will show the correct option menu.
- Game will pause when the game menu is showing.
- Controller detection should work better. If the game fails to detect a controller, restarting the game should fix it. Don't let your controller die, it might cause issues.
- If your current control method disconnects, the game will automatically pause.
- If the steam overlay appears, the game will automatically pause. (Not applicable here.)
- Stun trap upgrades now give 2 extra charges per upgrade.
- Flash light effect isn't as bright.
- Unity Input System should now correctly set Generic Gamepads as gamepads and not joysticks.
- Document Inventory tabs will all be shown, their text will be replaced with "???" if you haven't found any of that category's notes.
- Document Inventory can now be navigated with a controller.
- Document Inventory buttons will have a red highlight, same for the keypad.
- When using the Document Inventory, you will no longer be able to move.
- Pausing the game will hide the Document Inventory.
Bugs
- NPCs didn't use maxAttackSpeed value.
- When starting a new game, save files will be properly reset.
- Couldn't navigate to the data options ta when using controller.
- Stairwell objects were clipping through the wall behind it.
- Stairwell door didn't have a black background for story purposes.
- Changed motion detector script to not allocate memory.
- Locked gates will remove doorways instead of doors.
- Motion detector would detect creatures moving up floors.
- Mimic sounds wouldn't reset after being aggressive.
- Mimic material alpha value couldn't be changed due to incorrect naming scheme.
- Jabberwock wouldn't run away properly.
- Jabberwock won't attack when running away.
- Options wouldn't load unless the option screen appeared.
- Camera transitions weren't synced properly.
- Fade gradient shadergraph had a visual bug with transparency.
- Skybox didn't export correctly.
- Intro didn't pay correctly, now it has in game effects applied.
- Past floor and active creatures weren't removed when going to the main menu.
- When opening achievements with controller, it wouldn't select a button initially.
- Fixed issue with the stun trap where it would give you 97 charges instead of the correct total.
Unity Errors
- Reconnecting a controller seems to work when using Steam. It doesn't seem to work when using other means, the Unity Input System is just broken like that. I've tried my best to amend these issues as the Input System does have the functionality, it just doesn't work. This has been an issue for years now. If your controller disconnects, restarting the game seems to fix it. If you are no where near a save point, use mouse and keyboard for the time being.
- Unity Input System will occasionally say a controller is a joystick, this is an issue with the System's ability to recognise what is a controller or not, it recognises main stream controllers just fine, e.g. PlayStation, Xbox, etc. This is also an issue on the System's part, I have done what I could to fix this issue.
